MERDEKA & PIONEER GENERATIONS AND CHAS DENTAL SUBSIDIES

In a dedicated effort to make healthcare and dental care more affordable for its citizens, the Singaporean government has implemented a range of subsidies. These are channelled through the Community Health Assist Scheme (CHAS), the Merdeka Generation package, and the Pioneer Generation package.

What is the Community Health Assist Scheme (CHAS)?

The Community Health Assist Scheme (CHAS) is a government healthcare subsidy scheme in Singapore that helps lower-income individuals and families afford essential healthcare services. It offers dental subsidies to eligible Singaporeans to make dental care more accessible for those who need it most.

How CHAS Dental Subsidy Scheme Works

Under the CHAS Dental Subsidy Scheme, eligible individuals can receive subsidies for selected dental services at participating dental clinics. The subsidies cover a portion of the dental fees, reducing the financial burden for patients. This encourages regular dental visits and promotes better oral health in the community. From routine check-ups and cleaning to more complex services like fillings, extractions, and denture services, the scheme ensures that cost isn’t prohibitive for anyone seeking dental care.

To access the CHAS Dental Subsidy, individuals must present a valid CHAS card at the participating dental clinic. The subsidy amount depends on the CHAS card tier the individual qualifies for.

CHAS Card Tiers

CHAS cardholders are divided into three categories with different subsidy rates — Blue, Orange, and Green. The individual’s tier depends on their household income and the Annual Value (AV) of their residence.
CHAS CriteriaCHAS Green CardCHAS Orange CardCHAS Blue Card
Household Monthly Income per PersonAbove $2,000$1,201 - $2,000$1,200 and Below
Annual Value (AV) of HomeAbove $25,000$21,001 - $25,000$21,000 and below
  • CHAS Blue and Orange Cards: These cards are for lower- to middle-income households, and cardholders receive higher subsidies for dental services, such as dental scaling and polishing, fillings, extractions, and dentures.
  • CHAS Green Card: The Green tier, reserved for those with slightly higher income, provides moderate subsidies.

Merdeka Generation

The Merdeka Generation (MG) refers to Singaporeans born between 1950 and 1959. Members of this generation receive additional healthcare benefits, including dental subsidies. Under the MG package, they receive a higher subsidy rate than regular CHAS cardholders, which translates to more affordable dental care.

Pioneer Generation

The Pioneer Generation (PG) package is for those born in or before 1949 and became citizens before 1987. Like the Merdeka Generation, the Pioneer Generation enjoys enhanced healthcare benefits, including dental subsidies. Pioneer Generation seniors are eligible for even higher subsidies for dental services at participating CHAS dental clinics.
