Our Tooth Fairy Programme has been thoughtfully designed to aid parents and children in building a positive rapport with dental visits. We firmly believe that inculcating good dental health practices in children will enable them to maintain optimal oral hygiene throughout their lives. Our programme endeavours to make dental appointments an enjoyable and comfortable experience for kids. We recognise and acknowledge that every child is unique, and we make it our priority to ensure that each child feels valued and special during their visit. As part of the Tooth Fairy Programme, children will receive a kids’ dental health book from their dentists that will document their dental milestones and appointments.
With the many stories they may have heard from family or friends, little ones are naturally more curious or fearful of visits to the dentist. This is why Family Dental Centre takes special care and consideration when it comes to treating children aged 12 and below. Our dental clinics across Singapore are staffed by a team of professional dentists. Whether it’s a routine dental check-up, a simple procedure of removing a decaying tooth or long-term braces treatment, our dentists approach treating children with care, patience and empathy.
We offer a variety of braces options, including metal or ceramic braces, as well as Invisalign®. Children with mispositioned teeth or bite, if detected early, can be corrected with simple braces/ removable braces without going through the traditional bracket braces. The earlier these issues are detected and corrected, the faster the treatment completion by our dentists.
Prevention is better than cure. As such, our dentists will customise treatment modality to help prevent cavities development in your child.
This includes:
Good eating habits and food preferences are established early in childhood. Poor diet can lead to poor health, obesity and even tooth decay for children. Our dentists educate kids on the importance of diet in oral care.
These have been proven to prevent tooth decay, strengthen the teeth as well as prevent tooth sensitivity.
Sometimes the deep grooves and pits on children’s teeth tend to trap food and plaque. Normal toothbrush bristles may not remove the trapped food and plaque effectively. As such sealants can seal and cover these deep grooves.
At Family Dental Centre, we understand how important it is for your child to feel comfortable and welcome. Our dentists for kids strive to make them feel comfortable in a dental environment. Our clinic at Capeview has amenities* such as kid-friendly decor in our kids’ treatment room, toys they can play with in the waiting room or hold onto while receiving treatment, a TV screen on the ceiling above the dental chair for the kids to enjoy cartoons during treatment and a selfie wall to commemorate their first visit to the dentist. Furthermore, our dentist also takes time to introduce your child to the dental chair and other equipment used – helping them gain familiarity and removing any fear or apprehension they might have felt initially before commencing the dental treatment. The dentist will look at your child’s teeth and gums to see if there are any problems. If there are no problems, the dentist will just clean the teeth and put on some fluoride to help prevent cavities.
*For parents, do note that these amenities are only available at certain clinics. Do give our team a call to check if the clinic you are thinking of heading to has these amenities.
As children grow and their mouths change, the frequency of their dentist visits can vary. It is recommended that children visit the dentist for a preventative check up every 6 months, but it depends on your child’s individual dental needs. For children who may be at higher risk of developing cavities or other dental problems, more frequent visits to your children’s dentist may be necessary. Regular dental visits are important for keeping your child healthy and can save you time, money, and even your child’s teeth in the long run. Prevention really is key when it comes to children’s oral care.
Early dental visits allow the child to form a relationship with his/her dentist, and to form a habit of good oral hygiene from a young age. In addition, many young children suffer from early childhood tooth decay, or tooth decay caused by baby bottles, which can result in the child needing multiple fillings or extractions. This is an easily preventable condition which the dentist can teach you to protect your child from.
To ensure a successful dental visit for young kids, parents can prepare the child by exposing them to some picture books that depict kids and dentists. Reading can help desensitise kids to the process and make it less intimidating for them. Rather than emphasising the importance of the visit, parents should try to explain to their children that it is similar to going to a supermarket for groceries. It is also best to choose dental clinics and dentists who are experienced in dealing with kids like those at Family Dental Centre in Singapore. To build rapport between kids and dentists, parents could even consider doing a ‘trial’ run at home where children are shown how the dentist will look into their mouth using a toothbrush.
Dental treatments can be expensive and can deter some from scheduling regular visits to the dental clinic for their child. However, starting dental care early is critical, to prevent problems from occurring later in life that might require more complex and costly solutions. Family Dental Centre is an approved healthcare provider under the Baby Bonus Scheme. This means that the savings in your Child Development Account (CDA) can be used to partially pay for your kid’s trips to the dentist in Singapore and for other dental treatments. Care for your child’s teeth without having to worry about the costs. Read here for more information on the Baby Bonus and other financial schemes.
