CHAS Dental Subsidies in Singapore
The Community Health Assist Scheme (CHAS) enables eligible Singapore Citizens to receive subsidies for dental care at participating private dental clinics. The scheme covers a defined list of procedures, and the subsidy amount depends on the type of CHAS card held.
From 1 October 2025, the Ministry of Health expanded CHAS dental coverage. This guide outlines what each CHAS card tier covers, subsidy caps per procedure (effective 1 October 2025), and what to prepare before your next visit at an affordable dental clinic in Singapore.
Understanding CHAS Card Tiers: Blue Versus Orange
All Singapore Citizens aged 21 and above can apply for a CHAS card. The tier assigned depends on household monthly income per person or the Annual Value (AV) of the home.
| CHAS Orange | CHAS Blue | |
|---|---|---|
| Household monthly income per person (for households with income) | $1,501 to $2,300 | $1,500 and below |
| Annual Value of home (for households with no income) | $21,001 to $31,000 | $21,000 and below |
The tier determines both which procedures qualify for subsidy and the amount. CHAS Blue carries higher subsidies than CHAS Orange, and the two tiers are not interchangeable. Pioneer Generation (PG) and Merdeka Generation (MG) cardholders receive enhanced rates above CHAS Blue.
Check your card type before your appointment, as different rates apply at the clinic.

For restorative procedures such as permanent crowns and root canal treatments in Singapore, the CHAS Blue subsidy can reduce the total cost considerably. The out-of-pocket amount will still depend on the clinic’s individual charges.
A Note on Pioneer Generation and Merdeka Generation Cardholders
PG cardholders (born on or before 31 December 1949, and Singapore Citizens by 31 December 1986) and MG cardholders (born between 1950 and 1959) receive enhanced rates above CHAS Blue. The same 18 dental procedures apply. MG rates are approximately $5 higher per procedure than CHAS Blue; PG rates are approximately $10 higher.
From mid-2026, eligible Singaporeans aged 60 and above will also be able to use Flexi-MediSave of up to $400 per year for permanent crowns and root canal treatments at participating CHAS clinics.
If you are unsure of your specific entitlements as a PG or MG cardholder, the team at your nearest Family Dental Centre branch can explain the applicable rates before your appointment. You can also refer to the MOH website for the full details.
What CHAS Dental Subsidies Do Not Cover
CHAS dental subsidies apply to the 18 procedures listed above only. Treatments outside that list are not covered under the scheme.
Common examples of procedures not covered include dental implants, veneers, teeth whitening and orthodontic treatments such as braces or clear aligners in Singapore.
The subsidy is a cap, not a full waiver. If the clinic’s charge for a covered procedure exceeds the subsidy amount, the patient pays the difference. From 1 October 2025, CHAS dental clinics are required to display MOH-published fee benchmarks for all 18 procedures alongside their price lists. Ask the clinic for an itemised estimate before treatment begins.
Making the Most of Your CHAS Dental Subsidy
Now that scaling and polishing is covered for both Blue and Orange cardholders, keeping up with routine preventive visits is easier. Routine dental cleaning allows dentists to identify developing issues early, before they require more involved treatment.
Subsidy claim limits reset at the start of each calendar year. Entitlements unused in the current year do not carry forward.
